Perm State University is going to help students from other study fields to learn this, and much more. Technical background is not necessary, since the programs are divided into 3 levels: Junior, Middle and Senior.

“This year, we are planning to renew several popular modules, such as the “Basics of Frontend”, “Programming in Python”, “Basics of 3D Modeling in Blender”, as well as launch a new course on developing apps for mobile devices,”

The Career Center at Perm State University has upgraded its forms of activity. Besides its primary task to search for vacancies for the PSU students and graduates, since now, it will also assist them at building a career strategy, and provide related trainings.

“Competition in the labor market requires the University graduates to be able to plan their professional progress. Hence the upgrade in our Career Center’s work. As PSU benefits from its alumni’s success, we are eager to acquire it in various ways. In the fall, the Center’s staff will start workshops on how to pass an interview and write a resume,”

says Olga Maksyutenko, head of the Applicants and Graduates Department, PSU.

The Career Center will supervise PSU students who participate in federal competitions. For instance, a career game and project “Your Move” allowed its participants to talk to an experienced gamer sharing her piece of advice. A 3rd year undergraduate in Ecology and Nature Management Svetlana Polygalova has already completed the required task and, among other contestants, will travel across Russia.

For Reference:

A survey, questioning PSU alumni ‘2021 showed that 51% of them were employed at the moment of graduation. 54% of respondents had work experience in their field, already. PSU alumni viewed their careers differently: 53% were looking forward to be freelancers or run their own businesses. 43% of them intended to become hired employees.

PSU Students about to Start Academic Year in France

Five students of Perm State University will enjoy the included education program at the University of Grenoble-Alpes, France. Four undergraduates in Translation and related sciences, and a graduate in Linguistics will spend 6-10 months there, studying according to their individual academic plans.

“This is the 10th year of our collaboration with the University of Grenoble-Alpes. Surely, a lot has changed both on our side, and the French one. Most of the documentary support has become digital and is run online, which makes the entire preparation much easier,”

Natalia Khorosheva, Head of the Department of Linguistics and Translation, PSU, states.

“We even managed to maintain our exchange pace regardless of the pandemic, with no breaks. Over the years, a dozen students continued their graduate studies in Grenoble having finished their courses, choosing France and nearby countries as a place to build their career and personal life,”

Natalia Khorosheva confirms.

At the present moment, the students’ quarantine isolation is coming to an end, and they will soon start their studies. Notably, PSU students choose the disciplines upon their personal plans, corresponding to the topics studied at PSU. Their marks in France will be credited back home in Perm.

“Despite the quarantine, we have already managed to try the local flavours, a bit,” Maria Erypalova, 4th year undergraduate, shares. “It’s still summer here, warm, incredibly beautiful and so extremely expensive (cucumbers for €0.50 a piece, not to mention prices on milk!). Still, French people are sweethearts, at least those with whom we have already managed to communicate”.

“Besides our location, we have seen the city of Grenoble twice: narrow streets typical of an old small European city. The parks, the summer cafes and life around seem to belong to a movie, which I fell in love for instantly, and am waiting impatiently for a chance to see more! The campus – I found it crowded: it’s a wide space with buildings, a large area. I didn’t expect it to be so beautiful! ”

The teachers of the Department of Linguistics and Translation at PSU wish our exchange students a successful and safe academic year, full of unforgettable impressions, useful experience and upgrade of language skills!

PSU to Support International Film Festival

On 616 September, Perm State University is hosting the “VUZ-Flahertiana” contest for student-based cinema clubs, as a support for the Flahertiana International Documentary Film Festival.

The VUZ-Flahertiana is a friendly way to talk about how we feel, in relation to non-fiction, true-to-life and hard-to-predict stories, which documentaries are. Our own response might be a valuable part of such a screening. According to the Contest Committee, “the goal of the competition is to promote the dialogue culture, tolerance, civic engagement and motivation in youth environment.”

Each University faculty was given the opportunity to choose its own film, referring to the unique collection by the Flahertiana International Film Festival, collected over the years of existence. Flahertiana’s competitive selection means we have access to the cream of the cream contestant productions within the documentary field.

The University develops in a dialogue with the local community, and itself,” says Ksenia Punina, Head of the Public Relations Department, PSU. “Here this dialogue is being given technical and intellectual support, as well as the interdisciplinary and unifying approach, hence the choice of films.

Instead of affiliation with a particular field of science, in 2021, the most popular topic is connected to personal progress and self-search, as well as the role that media in that phenomenon. It can be assumed that this choice was triggered by the threat to the human species in the face of the pandemic and the withdrawal of online education.

“We hope that each show will reveal the individuality character of the faculty, encouraging students and teachers to speak out, contributing to the interactive University climate. We are looking forward to make “VUZ-Flahertiana” a year-round film club in a partnership and mentorship of the Perm Cinema Center,”

notes Elena Malkova, Vice-Rector for Youth Policy, PSU.

International Students Express Opinions on Higher Education in Russia

IPR MEDIA, an industrial member of the “Russian Exporting Universities” network, has studied the level of satisfaction with Russian universities among international students, during the pandemic.

The survey has been performed from 13 April to 6 June, 2021. It involved 851 foreign students from 6 Russian universities – participants of the network partnership:

The survey aimed to estimate the current situation, possible changes and prospects of Russian education on the global educational market.

According to students’ feedbacks, for almost half of them (48.2%), the quality of education has not changed. However, the options “got better” and “got worse” received a nearly equal amount of voices: 22.3% and 22.6%, respectively. The higher the level of respondent’s education, the more positively he/she classifies the quality of education during the pandemic.

The majority of respondents are planning to continue their studies at Russian universities – 87.9%, while 3.2% of them failed to show any interest in that.

The results show a high level of students’ satisfaction with the quality of educational services, positive experience gained , and a high demand for Russian education.

Almost half of the total number of respondents chose the following areas of studies when applying to Russian universities:

  • medical and biological faculties – 48.2%,
  • humanities – 17.4%,
  • economics and related – 10%.

The above streaming reflects a general trend in selecting disciplines for studying in Russia.

The study confirms the assumption that more foreigners choose Russia as a place for study. The Russian language is among their choices, as well. Under the conditions of the pandemic, which has been lasting over 1,5 years from now, foreign students tend to adapt to distance learning, and are less likely to express dissatisfaction with its quality and technical conditions.

For reference: “Russian Exporting Universities” is a voluntary association of universities and experts that aims at improvement of practices and educational methods used at teaching foreign students, developing modern educational programs, attracting newcomers, improving competences in teaching Russian as a foreign language, developing the state testing system for the Russian language, etc.
