Russian Science Foundation Announces Grants for 2023-2026

The Department of Scientific and Innovation Activity at Perm State University reminds about the start of applications for a grant competition “Research activity of global-scale scientific laboratories, acquiring the policy of scientific and technological development priorities of the Russian Federation” (Applications Due to 3 October, 2022).

Supported by the President of Russian Federation, the grants by the Russian Science Foundation, will be allocated to acclaimed scholars, including young ones, to support their fundamental research and research practices in 2023-2026, followed by the possible extension of the supported project for 3 years. The scientific study (project) should be aimed at solving specific problems within one of the priorities of scientific and technological development of the Russian Federation, as defined by the related strategy.

Invited for the competition are projects of scientific teams involved in global-scale scientific research, performed on the basis of existing laboratories (divisions) of Russian scientific organizations, Russian educational institutions of higher education or other organizations whose constituent documents provide the opportunity of carrying out scientific research on the territory of the Russian Federation by international (interstate or intergovernmental) scientific organizations, regardless of the position held by the head of the research team (hereinafter referred to as the project leader), his/her academic degree and citizenship, as well as organizational, legal and ownership status of the organization which shares the employment or civil law relations with the project leader or research team members.  

The amount of the grant by the Russian Science Foundation is from RUB 20 million up to RUB 30 million in 2023; up to RUB 28 million in 2024; up to RUB 26 million in 2025; up to RUB 24 million in 2026.

To implement the project, legal entities interested in the results of the project may provide additional monetary funding.

Deadline for applications: 5pm (Moscow time), 3 October, 2022. Applications should be filled in electronically, using the Russian Science Foundation information and analytical system.  

The results will be announced on 1 March, 2023.

PSU Sets on 2021 Records, Raises Money to Support Science

Dr. Sergey Pyankov, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation, has overviewed the results of 2021 at the Academic Council of Perm State University (PSU). Along with PSU Press Office, we have paid close attention to the international component of his report:

In 2021, and for the first time, a group of PSU researchers from a wide spectrum of disciplines performed as authors for the “Science and Global Challenges of the 21st Century – Science and Technology” by Springer. In total, out of 99 publications 59 belonged to PSU scholars.

The Scientific Publishing Office at PSU helped organize the publication of papers, initiated at the Science and Global Challenges of the 21st Century Forum (autumn 2021); the Office continues providing assistance in writing scientific articles for the University scholars.

For the past year, 237 PSU scholars published their papers in internationally recognized journals; among them, 111 people had their publications quoted by the Web of Science. On the average, the number of articles published at Scopus is 2.6, and 2.8 at the Web of Science.

In 2021, a new Department of Scientific and Innovative Activity had been launched at PSU. For the first months of its activity, the Department concluded 12 contracts worth about RUB 70 million. Among the Department’s divisions, the International Academic Cooperation Office assists grant applications, promotes science diplomacy and contributes to the “Rational Subsoil Use” Perm Scientific and Educational Center.   

“This year, we will keep on building a unified and transparent network – providing informational, instructional and executive support of the scientific activity at PSU. We are doing our best to encourage our faculties and research units to write grant applications, as well as run commercial and contractual activities. The related search algorithms, regulatory support and tangible results should be clear and convenient for those researchers. We see our task at providing most full and complete support on that,”

said Dr. Sergey Pyankov, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovations, PSU.

Summing up the annual financial records, Dr. Pyankov noted that in 2021, PSU received the maximum amount of RUB 720 mln for research activities, which was 60% higher than in 2020. The Photonics NTI Competence Center, the Natural Sciences Institute, and the Faculty of Physics, PSU made the greatest contribution in this progress.

Fulbright Program Opens Applications for Academic Year 2023-2024

International Department of Perm State University informs about a great academic opportunity: the Fulbright program invites representatives of Russian universities to participate in the competition for the academic year 2023-2024. The following programs are open for competitions:

  • Fulbright Visiting Graduate Student (VGS): Master and Internship course program for graduates and graduate students. The scholarship covers tuition fees for a US master’s degree (up to 2 years of study) or postgraduate research (1 academic year) in the USA (application deadline: 15 May, 2022).
  • Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA): the program lasts 9 months and involves working as teachers or assistant teachers of the Russian language at a US university, being also enrolled into courses at a local University, including U.S. Studies. (applications are accepted until 1 June, 2022).
  • Fulbright Faculty Development Program (FFDP): 5-month program for university professors with a continuous teaching experience of at least 3 years – providing best practices and theoretical approaches to curriculum development (applications are accepted until 15 June, 2022).
  • Program for Scientists and Artists: applicants with an academic degree no less that than a candidate of sciences or arts are eligible to take part. The Program involves no age restrictions. The Program duration is 3 to 9 months (applications are accepted until 15 July, 2022).

The Fulbright Program is a program of highly competitive, merit-based grants for international educational exchange for students, scholars, teachers, professionals, scientists and artists, founded by United States Senator J. William Fulbright in 1946.

Slovenia Invites for 2022/2023 Scholarships

In accordance with the Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Slovenia on cooperation in culture, science and education, the Centre of the Republic of Slovenia for Mobility and European Educational and Training Programmes (CMEPIUS, ) provides students and postgraduates of Russian universities 16 monthly scholarships for the 2022/2023 academic year – the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation reminds.  

Candidates need to provide documents for both the Russian and Slovenian related bodies.

  • letter of introduction;
  • curriculum vitae;
  • certificate of knowledge of Slovenian or English;
  • an extract from the record book;
  • a copy of the diploma with an insert (if available);
  • a copy of international passport;
  • signed agreement to personal data processing.

For the Slovenian side, the following documents must be submitted:

  • questionnaire;
  • letter of admission;
  • the passport;
  • letter of recommendation;
  • a copy of the diploma or an extract from the student’s record book with a certified translation into English or Slovenian.

A Call for Scholarships in Norway (due to 1 March, 2022)

The Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation informs: following the agreement on cooperation in education from 27 April, 2010 with the Ministry of Knowledge of the Kingdom of Norway, a scholarship competition has been opened for Russian candidates to study in higher educational institutions in Norway.

Within the Program framework, the Norwegian host party may consider various training options, like summer school or academic mobility (one semester or whole academic year).

The Program university participants in Norway include:

Among the Norwegian partners of Perm State University are the University of Tromsø – The Arctic University of Norway (Universitetet i Tromsø – Norges arktiske universitet), and the University of Bergen (Universitetet i Bergen).

To participate in the Program, a candidate must prepare two sets of documents. The first set should include one copy of all the documents required by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation (one copy in Russian). The second set includes the documents required by a host (Norwegian university), using the language required, as well as the Diku – Norwegian Agency for International Cooperation and Education Quality Improvement.

Applicants’ documents must be sent in scanned form to Ms. Elena Sofronova, 8 (499) 236-25-57, esofronova@mail.ru. The deadline for submitting documents is 3 March, 2022.

The Norwegian side accepts applications electronically. The documents must be submitted to the Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills (HK-dir) online by March 1, 2022, using the following link.

The Government of Brunei Darussalam Scholarship award provides applicants with the opportunity to undertake Diploma, Undergraduate Degree and Postgraduate Master’s Degree at any one of the following institutions of higher education:

The closing date for the reception of completed application forms, together with certified copies of relevant certificates and documents is, not later than 16:00 (Brunei time) on 15 February 2022.

What is Brunei?

Brunei, officially the Nation of Brunei, the Abode of Peace, also Brunei Darussalam. Located on the north coast of the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia, surrounded by the Malaysian state of Sarawak, Brunei is the only sovereign state entirely on Borneo – the island divided between Malaysia and Indonesia.

Classified as a developed country today, Brunei gained its independence from the United Kingdom in 1984. Growing its wealth from extensive petroleum and natural gas fields, Brunei increased 56% GDP from 1999 to 2008, transforming it into an industrialized country.

Participate Scholarship Competition, Study in Slovakia

PSU International Department informs: According to an agreement between the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic on cooperation in the field of education in the 2022/2023 academic year, the Republic of Slovakia sets a training and internship Program for the undergraduate students (up to 5 months), and graduate students, scientists and teaching professors (up to 10 months).

To participate in the Program, the candidate must prepare two packages of documents.
The set of documents for the Slovak side includes:

  1. Filled in Questionnaire;
  2. CV;
  3. Motivation letter;
  4. Plan for study or scientific work;
  5. Letter – an invitation from a Slovak university (if possible);
  6. Letters of recommendation;
  7. Academic certificate/extract from the student’s record book or diploma;
  8. List of publications related to scientific work;
  9. Photos for the questionnaires.

For the Russian side, it is necessary to provide a letter of recommendation from the home university (PSU, in this case), a curriculum vitae, a certificate of knowledge of Slovak or English (in Russian), and the first page of international passport.

The deadline for accepting applications for the 2022/2023 academic year is 16:00 March 10, 2022.

Studying in Russia? Learn History, Meet Friends, Build Collaborations!

Are you a foreign student studying in Russia? Looking for new friends or research collaborations? Interested in Russian culture and history? Students from Perm State University, as elsewhere across Russia are welcome to take part in 2nd International Winter School of History ’2022.

The Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the Russian Historical Society, the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, the Government of the Tula Region and the Tula State University invite Russian and foreign students to participate in the 2nd International Winter School of History ‘2022.

Students of all undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate courses may take part. The School will be held from 21 to 25 March, 2022. Applications are due to 25 January, 2022.

The School will cover the following theme tracks:

  • history of Russian economy and industry;
  • history of Russian literature;
  • history of Ancient Russia and the Moscow kingdom;
  • history of the Great Patriotic War (WWII);
  • history of the Russian Empire.

The School Committee covers costs of travel, accommodation and meals for the School participants. A prerequisite for participation are: certificate of vaccination against coronavirus infection; certificate of contraindications to vaccination, or a previous illness. Applications are accepted in two categories: international students studying at Russian universities, and Russian students.

Applicants must fill out an electronic form, and send a motivation letter indicating personal information and preferred track (no more than 2,000 characters). For international students, required is a letter in Russian, for the Russian students the one in English.

PSU Students Win RUB 2.5 Million Grant

Seven students from Perm State University have been announced laureates of “Your Move” All-Russian Student Competition, winning RUB 2.5 million ($34,000) for the university projects.

In the competition finals, the participants developed projects with teams of previously selected spheres. Among the prize-winners are PSU international students and, particularly, Meylis Tuvakov (Turkmenistan), Faculty of Economics, who initiated the Center of Foreign Culture at Perm State University.

Alisa Okulova, a 4th year student at the Faculty of Philology, and her team have developed a “Restart” Project solution – helping graduate students cope with burnout:

“My team and I worked on a mega-challenge of Stress-Free Space at universities. Our “Restart” project involves the creation of a platform – providing access to useful info, videos and dialogue with a chatbot, and also advice from university psychologists and students who have coped with emotional burnout,”

shares Alisa Okulova.

Meylis Tuvakov, known as a curator of PSU Center of Foreign Culture, unites a team of task-oriented, fast and able volunteers, aimed at collaborations on and off-campus, including sports and creative projects.

“To improve yourself and show progress, one has step into a team. Together, we try to implement cool ideas into projects of all kind. Not does it only help us to promote ourselves or faculties we belong to, but also develop successful communication, team work, brainstorming, leadership and more – turning them to action,”

Meylis states.

The Grant will be given to several PSU projects and will be regarded as an investment into student activity, on the whole.

Scholarship Opportunity at PSU

Planning to study at PSU, choosing faculties? Looking for scholarship opportunities?

Perm State University (PSU) has announced a start for a mini-grant scholarship in History and Politics. Eligible for the scholarship are 3rd and 4th year undergraduate students, MA and post-graduate students of the Faculty of History and Politics, PSU with distinguished academic performance. 

The mini-grant scholarship of RUB 30,000 ($ 400) comes as a one-off payment and is meant to provide additional support for research, collecting empirical data or public projects.

  • Application time: due to 2 December, 2021;

Initiated in 2018 by PSU alumni, the scholarship commemorates late Dr. Oleg Podvintsev, a known public figure, researcher and teaching professor Faculty of History and Political Sciences, PSU (Историко-политологический факультет ПГНИУ) and aims to promote bright students in the mentioned subjects.

“With the help of the scholarship, we were able to implement a ‘New Look’ city student project, aimed to teach and support those who wish to create high-quality pop-science content. The Podvintsev Scholarship is a great opportunity to fulfil your ideas and desires. I was extremely happy to participate in the competition, along with many talented candidates” ,

The scholarship is available to both Russian and international scholars. Recently, 13 students from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Haiti, Indonesia, Iraq, Nigeria, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are studying at the Faculty of History and Political Science at Perm State University. The Faculty successfully operates, regularly hosting for international and national academic events, providing academic mobility for students and teaching staff.
